Whiteknights Primary School: excellence in writing
Having secured some of the highest outcomes for writing at national level, last week Whiteknights Primary School hosted a showcase to share their approach to the writing cycle with other BPET schools.
With an average of 96% (expected), and 41% (greater depth) over the last three years - compared to national average of 71% and 13% respectively - their approach is proving extremely successful. Whiteknights' staff have reached these peaks of excellence in the context of having 14% SEND pupils and 19% on Pupil Premium Support.
Key Stage 2 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 |
Expected standards | 97% | 93% | 97% |
Greater depth | 48% | 46% | 30% |
Writing has been high on the agenda of all BPET schools' development plans in recent years; the showcase was organised in order to share their approach with other colleagues across our trust, promoting collaboration and professional development.
The event was also attended by the Chief Education Director, who was very impressed with staff's clarity and passion in delivery about how their writing cycle has taken shape and evolved over the years, which has meant they have continuously achieved high outcomes.
Laura Gregory, Chief Education Director, said: "I loved the fact that staff referenced where the thinking and development came from, always referencing the research sitting behind why the decisions have been made, as well as their own self-evaluation to keep thing on track and continually responding to what pupils need. We are proud to spend time and resources creating opportunities to share best practices and expertise across our schools to raise standards."
