Debate Competition 2024
On 19 June, Kilburn Grange School and Rivermead Primary School hosted the annual BPET Debate Competition, facilitated by Noisy Classroom, for the London and Berkshire hubs respectively.
There were two rounds of debates: one the children had planned and one with a topic they only had 30 minutes to prepare for. The pupils were very invested in the topics and came up with brilliant counter arguments.
Each performance was judged on the following skills:
- Rebuttal: respectful and polite listening followed by constructive counter argument
- Confidence: expressed in their tone of voice and body language in delivery
- Explanation: the reasoning about their point of view on the topic at hand.
Every pupil displayed high standards of articulation and critical oracy, used appropriate debating language, and went on to impress the audience through promptly embodying the knowledge gained during the workshop.
Huge well done to all the children involved, particularly those partaking in a debating competition for the first time. Congratulations to the winners in the London hub, Deer Park School kept their winning streak going for the third year in a row. While in the Berkshire hub, The Heights Primary School took home the gold!
Many thanks to Kilburn Grange School and Rivermead Primary School for hosting this years competition, and special thanks to the Noisy Classroom representatives for their support on the day.
